More about Big Kids on Beaufort
Our Big Kids program offers a play-based school readiness learning experience designed to help children thrive as confident, curious, and capable learners. With their own dedicated building just steps from our main centre, Big Kids enjoy the space and independence to build friendships, confidence, and real school readiness — preparing them for a positive start to their schooling journey.
Led by a qualified Early Childhood Teacher and supported by a team of experienced and qualified Early Childhood Educators, children are nurtured through a balance of play, independence, and preparation for the exciting step into school.
The preschool features five distinct areas for children to explore, each thoughtfully designed to support different types of learning, play, and discovery.
A typical day
The day mirrors a school routine in a gentle, age-appropriate way. Children enjoy set group times and practice independence by bringing their own lunchboxes, managing their belongings, and taking responsibility for daily routines.
Play-based learning flows through every part of the day, with time for outdoor play, creative projects, and quiet rest.
Through play, inquiry, and hands-on exploration, children grow into confident, capable learners ready for their next learning journey.
Our approach
Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach and guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), our program gives children the best of both worlds — the nurturing care of childcare alongside the learning focus of school.
A single spark of curiosity can inspire weeks of learning, filled with hands-on projects, creative exploration, and collaboration with peers.
A key focus of our program is developing a sense of agency, helping children learn and play independently, make choices, take positive risks, and build self-confidence.
Promoting self-help skills is equally important, encouraging independence, social interaction, and exploration. Simple everyday tasks such as dressing themselves, practicing hygiene, managing belongings, and tidying up toys help children feel a sense of achievement and happiness while supporting successful social development.
Sustainability in practice
Sustainability is woven into our daily program — from caring for the worm farm to using natural, loose-part materials in play.
Children learn to respect and care for their environment, developing creativity, responsibility, and an appreciation for the world around them.
